What’s Behind Beauty Scandals? Join the Second IP Secrets Meeting

Avatar

The second IP Secrets online session will take place on 27 October and will focus on high-profile disputes between beauty brands. Using real-life examples, we will explore what lies at the heart of these disputes, which intellectual property rights are at stake, and where the line between inspiration and infringement lies.

Behind Beautiful Packaging – Stories of Legal Disputes

Distinctive design, attractive packaging and high-profile launches draw attention to beauty products. But sometimes popularity also brings allegations of copying, misappropriation of ideas and the use of others’ work.

What exactly becomes the subject of such disputes? What rights do beauty brands protect? And where does inspiration end and infringement begin?

These questions will be the focus of the second session, «IP Secrets: What’s Behind Beauty Scandals?», which will take place on 27 October 2026 at 15:30 via Zoom.

From Social Media Discussions to Legal Disputes

During the meeting, we will explore several high-profile beauty scandals that went beyond social media and developed into legal disputes. Using well-known cases, we will examine what sparked the disputes, whether any IP rights were infringed and, if so, which ones, as well as how the disputes unfolded and what their outcomes were.

We will discuss:

  • what was at the heart of the dispute between Sheree Cosmetics and Kylie Cosmetics, and who owns the name «Born to Sparkle»?
  • why did Brightex accuse L’Oréal of using its patented technologies for virtual try-on and cosmetics selection?
  • what should you consider when creating a product, design or brand to avoid infringing intellectual property rights?

The meeting will be of interest to anyone who follows cosmetics brands and the beauty industry, works with design, content or product development, and wants to understand through real-life examples how intellectual property works.
