Intellectual Property Explained Through Clear, Real-Life Examples
IP Secrets is a new series of short online meetings on intellectual property for everyone interested in how it works in everyday life, creativity, business and the creative industries.
Just beginning to explore intellectual property? We will use clear examples to explain what can be protected and how, who owns the rights to what is created, what can be used freely and when permission is required.
We will also explore real court cases, creative disputes and unexpected stories behind well-known brands, designs, works and inventions.
Each meeting will focus on a specific topic and real-life cases that will help participants see how intellectual property works not only in theory but also in real-world situations.
IP Secrets: High-Profile Disputes Involving Major Brands
The first meeting will take place on 13 October 2026 at 15:30 via Zoom and will focus on trademark disputes.
Together, we will explore real-life cases from the field of intellectual property and examine clear examples to understand how names and logos are protected and why they can become the subject of high-profile disputes.
Using real court disputes as examples, we will discuss:
- what happens when two companies claim rights to similar trademarks;
- whether differences in a name or logo can be sufficient to avoid a dispute;
- when similarity between brands becomes a legal issue;
- what arguments companies presented in real court disputes and how these cases were resolved.
The meeting will be of interest to anyone who wants to learn more about the stories and disputes behind well-known brands and understand, through specific examples, how intellectual property works.
